Alumni Profile: Todd Messer
In February, Crain’s Detroit Business reported that Detroit-based Little Caesar’s is gaining a bigger piece of the $27 billion U.S. pizza market share, adding more than 200 stores in 2006. OU alumnus Todd Messer, SBA ’86, is happy to be a part of the expansion, which is projected to continue in 2007. Messer, who co-owns 15 Little Caesars franchises in Little Rock, Ark., with his brother, is the executive director of the Little Caesars Franchisee Association, a national organization headquartered in Troy. Scholarship Profile: Kwame Everett Kwame Everett has spent his time at Oakland University working to build cultural unity and helping minority students succeed. He has been rewarded with two prestigious scholarships, a $5,000 Keeper of the Dream Award and a $3,000 Black Alumni Scholarship. “These scholarships have helped finance my education, which is the key to life,” Everett says. Join the GrizzLink online community The GrizzLink community boasts more than 420 members in the first 3 months! OU alumni are joining to reconnect with each other through “blind e-mail” and the searchable alumni directory. More than 75,000, OU alumni are listed in the GrizzLink directory from class years 1963 - 2007. Alumni can view their personal, private profile and update their biographical information. They can also locate their OU Grizzly ID, needed to login to SAIL, on their GrizzLink profile page to assist in obtaining OU academic transcripts. Full Story...

Dinner with a Dozen Grizzlies One of the Future Alumni Network’s newest traditions is Dinner with a Dozen Grizzlies. Based on UCLA's award-winning program, Dinner with a Dozen Grizzlies is built on a simple idea: alumni host dinners in their homes for students, faculty and fellow alumni in an effort to make OU a warmer, friendlier place. Alumni Night at the O’Rena a great success! February's Alumni Night at the O’Rena was a great success with over 200 OU alumni and their friends and families participating in the fun! Guests enjoyed the opportunity to hear from Jeff Smith, associate head coach of the men’s basketball team, and Adrienne Bass, director for alumni relations. Join the SEHS for summer programs in Brazil and New Zealand This summer, Oakland University students in education can take part in two unique educational exchange programs through the School of Education and Human Services. In July, undergraduate and graduate students will travel to Brazil to explore issues of urban education such as education reform, ethnic diversity and social inequality. OU Global Security Forum to feature film director Robert Greenwald Producer, director and political activist Robert Greenwald will appear at Oakland University as keynote speaker at OU’s Second Annual Global Security Forum to be held Monday, April 9, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. in the Oakland Center Banquet Rooms. Greenwald will introduce and screen his recent documentary, “Iraq for Sale,” a 75-minute film exposing the negative effects of reconstruction profiteering within Iraq on its citizens and American soldiers and their families. Lafayette String Quartet to perform at OU The critically acclaimed Lafayette String Quartet will return home to Oakland University on April 12 for a benefit concert for the Department of Music, Theatre and Dance. OU to host 7th annual AUTOe conference April 23-24 Now in its seventh year, the 2007 AUTOe conference promises to deliver pragmatic insight into the state of information technologies within the auto industry by the thought leaders best equipped to do so—automotive CIOs. The conference will be held at Oakland University April 23-24. The theme of this year’s conference, “Automotive IT: Living in Interesting Times,” reflects the changing, challenging and uncertain environment that automotive information technology leaders face.
