Some End of the Semester Performance Highlights

From the beginning of November until the end of the fall semester is always a busy time for OU Music, Theatre and Dance. Music and dance ensembles that have been working for weeks are ready to perform for an audience, and the second theatre production of the year opens in the middle of the November. A few minutes with the season brochure or the OU online calendar will uncover something to suit every taste. Chamber music? Jazz? Symphonic? Opera? The sophisticated wit of one of England's great twentieth-century playwrights? Yes, we have all that and more. Here are just some of the highlights. On November 14, the OU Brass Band will celebrate its fifth anniversary with a recital featuring alumnus and tuba player Nicholas Adragna as soloist in a performance of the Concerto for Tuba by Martin Ellerby.   Right: Nicholas Adragna

Meet Two Theatre Gen Ed Teachers

Every undergrad at OU must take at least one general education class in the Arts, and the 16 "gen eds" currently offered through Music, Theatre and Dance are among the most popular on campus. In a typical year, 2,000 undergraduates will expand their horizons by attending a class from a list that encompasses everything from Film Music to Ethnic Dance in America. Some of the classes are taught by faculty who have busy performance careers that their students may not be aware of. Among those with dual careers as both teachers and working professional performers are Milicia Govich and Thomas Mahard, both of whom have taken acting classes with highly respected teachers and appeared on stage and film with some very famous names.  Milica Govich, known to family and friends as Mila, is currently teaching two sections of Theatre 100. She began her career as a New York-based actor, and during that time she appeared in Hello Dolly on Broadway with Carol Channing and then accompanied Ms. Channing on the national tour.  Right: Mila Govich

November News

Everyone at Music, Theatre and Dance is delighted to announce that our online presence has been updated. We now have a colorful new landing page and if you visit the page, you will see you now have two options to seek further information. You can click on the "Academics" button on the left beneath the photo banner and follow on from there. Or you can click the "Performance Schedule" button for easy access to information about all our recitals and other productions. That page can be sorted according to discipline and if you click on an event, a pop-up box appears, which gives you all the information you need, including a link to take you directly to the Star Tickets website, so you can buy your tickets right then and there.
