WE'RE ON THE MOVE!
As part of the university's ongoing effort to make North Foundation Hall the one-stop destination for all student services, Career Services will be moving from Vandenberg Hall to North Foundation Hall. We'll be relocating to the 4th floor of Wilson Hall on March 23, and the Office of Budget and Financial Planning will move to Wilson Hall the following day. We'll still be open for business in North Foundation Hall through the end of the day on March 22, and will reopen in our new home in Wilson Hall on March 24.
Please note that our phone extensions will remain the same, and our staff directory will reflect our new office addresses on March 23.

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE NEW HMO PLANS?
Representatives from Priority Health, HAP and
Blue Care Network will be on campus Monday, March 15, 2010 from
1:00 - 4:00 PM in the Oakland Room of the Oakland Center to answer
questions you may have about the new health-engagement HMO plans.
If you have questions about:
* The health risk assessment (HRA) questionnaire
* Choosing a PCP
* Required doctor visit and Qualification Form
* Coverage related questions
Please stop by during the event to get your questions answered. Representatives from Staff Benefits will also be present.

you have difficulty getting logged into your account, please contact
the benefits Office at 248-370-4207, or stop by 142 NFH between 8 am
and 12 pm, or 1 pm and 5 pm for personal assistance.
Contact your primary care physician to set up an appointment to fill
out the qualification form for your HMO. Do this as soon as possible,
as some doctors are already booked months in advance for well-care
appointments. Copies of these forms can be found at your HMO's website
if you'd like to print it out to take to your appointment.
All three of these steps need to be completed prior to MARCH 31, 2010
in order to continue to receive enhanced benefits from your HMO. If
you do not get these steps completed, your copays and deductibles WILL
CHANGE. Please contact the Benefits Office if you have any questions.

SKILLCHECK SKILLS ASSESSMENT TOOL
supervisors will receive summaries of job applicant assessment results
and may use them to compare all internal and external applicants for
positions that include these skills as minimum qualifications. Each
summary will provide overall scores and the total time used for taking
the assessment. Clerical-technical bargaining unit members who meet
minimum qualifications for a position will not be denied an interview
based on their assessment scores. There is no pass/fail standard.
Rather, the scores will be used as a component in the overall selection
process in determining the final candidate.
Human Resources is pleased to announce the rollout of the Skills
Assessment Tool. This computer-based program will be used to assess job
candidates' level of expertise and skill on Microsoft Office suites
including Access, Excel and Word. In addition to technical skills, the
program includes assessments on general clerical office skills such as
grammar, spelling, data entry, etc.
positions posted March 8, 2010, and thereafter will be required to
complete the skills assessment if it is a minimum "required" /
"additional" qualification on the job posting. We encourage everyone to
take this opportunity to assess their individual skills utilizing this
tool as soon as possible. Doing so, job candidates can minimize the
pressure and anxiety of completing assessments for positions they're
seeking. The completion time for taking an assessment varies depending
on each person. A maximum of 90 minutes will be allowed for a testing
period covering three assessments. Employees should work with their
managers to coordinate reasonable release time to take the skills
After completing any specific assessment for the
first time, an individual may complete additional assessments no more
than once each month or upon application for a position. Results will
be retained in University Human Resources for a period of one year.
Only assessments with the best scores will be retained. Employees may
receive a summary of assessment results and review the indicated areas
of need, which will guide them in designing future training
opportunities. Employees may take the assessment even if they are not
considering applying for a new job. This will give them a baseline for
determining their current skill set and what they can do to improve it
through UHR training services. Refer to the 2008-2011 OUPSA Bargaining
Agreement for more specific details.

The Pawley Learning Institute is offering a Lean Thinking webinar to Oakland
University Faculty and Staff. The Lean Thinking Webinar is a basic theoretical
introduction to lean. For those looking for some general background on what
lean is, this webinar provides an overview to answer those inquiries. It
includes three areas: an introduction to lean and its history, an introduction
to three philosophies of lean and an introduction to five organizational
