Oakland University's medical school, slated to open later this year, was noted in two Detroit News articles.

Lean Consortium
Oakland University was cited in the Oakland Press as a charter member of the Michigan LEAN Consortium, a diverse network of Lean professionals who come together to share innovative business practices.

Math Institute
Two high school students who participated in the Oakland's Summer Mathematics Institute, Randy Jia and David Lu, were featured in the Detroit News after winning a national math competition that landed each a $30,000 scholarship.

Swine Flu Vaccine
A Detroit News article cited Oakland University among a number of universities in Michigan that offer the H1N1 vaccine.

Facilitator Training
Crain's Detroit Business reported on the Facilitator Training Certificate program offered through the OU School of Education and Human Services. The program is designed for people who work in career development agencies, including employment services, personnel departments, rehabilitation programs and school career centers.

Men's Basketball
The Detroit News and Oakland Press featured articles chronicling the resolve of the OU Men's basketball program to compete against top-ranked teams from around the nation. This season's schedule included games against elite opponents, including Michigan State, Memphis and Kansas.

Eddie Cheng
OU Mathematics professor Eddie Cheng was recognized in a Detroit News article for accompanying two area high school students to a national math competition. Cheng, who serves as director of the OU Summer Mathematics Institute, mentored the students as they presented research at the Siemans Competition in Math, Science and Technology in New York.

Rasul Chaudhry
Rasul Chaudhry, professor of biological sciences at OU, was quoted in a Detroit Free Press article examining legal and ethical concerns surrounding stem cell research.

 

Campus Events
 
Holiday Walk
The Oakland Press reported on the 38th annual Holiday Walk at Meadow Brook Hall sponsored by MSU Federal Credit Union. This year's celebration theme "Wonders of Winter" will highlight some of the holiday traditions of OU founders John Dodge and Matilda Dodge Wilson.

Pickle Hunt
The Oakland Press reported on the "Legend of the Pickle" challenge held as part of Meadow Brook Hall's holiday festivities. The contest was started to capture the interest of young children while their parents enjoy the Holiday Walk.

 

Remarkable Students and Alumni


Bob and Melissa Mele
The father and daughter pair was featured in an Oakland Press article chronicling their educational journey together as OU students. Bob completed his degree in educational leadership, while Melissa majored in health promotion and injury prevention. The two graduated in the winter commencement ceremony.

Jenna Bachrouche
Jenna Bachrouche was featured in an Oakland Press article announcing her intentions to play basketball for OU. Bachrouche earned all-county honors as a senior playing for Farmington High School.

Julia Vestin
Julia Vestin was featured in an Oakland Press article announcing the Swedish native's recent commitment to play basketball for OU. The 6-foot-2-inch forward started for the Swedish national team in overseas competition.

Drew Maynard
OU Sophomore basketball player Drew Maynard was featured in an Oakland Press article recognizing his outstanding performance in a recent game against the University of Oregon.
