Scholarship Profile: Katie Reilly
Even though she is a junior, Katie Reilly has another two years to spend earning her degree at Oakland University because she plans to double major in finance and accounting. Luckily, she has earned the financial assistance of the OU Alumni Association; Reilly is the recipient of the $3,000 SBA scholarship.  Full Story...

Alumni Profile: Michael Michalak, CAS '68
Michael Michalak, CAS ’68, U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam, was recently honored with the Distinguished Alumni Service Award. The Distinguished Alumni Service Award is Oakland’s highest alumni honor, recognizing peerless volunteer leadership in service to OU. Michalak has been an important part of the annual Woodcock Legacy Seminar since it began in 1993. He also assists OU students who study abroad through the Guizhou exchange program.  Full Story...

OUAA scholarship opportunities
Beginning in January 2008, the OUAA will once roll out applications for scholarships that directly benefit alumni and their family members. If you are a graduate of Oakland University who is currently pursuing a second degree at OU, you are eligible to apply for a Returning Alumni Scholarship. Maybe you are a parent or grandparent of a current or incoming Oakland University freshman. If so, they may qualify to apply for a Legacy Scholarship. Full Story...

Grizzlies gather for an exciting new basketball season
Join alumni and friends as we cheer on the 2007-08 Golden Grizzlies men’s basketball team in a double-header at the Palace of Auburn Hills on Saturday, Dec. 22. The Oakland University Alumni Association is hosting the “Golden Grizzlies Gathering at the Palace” – an event you won’t want to miss. Grizzly Getaway to Scandinavia

New membership benefit for OU alumni families

Oakland University alumni in the southeast Michigan area now have a special option for their children thanks to a new membership benefit through the Oakland University Alumni Association (OUAA). Lil' Peoples’ Place, a child development center with two locations in Clarkston, is offering current OUAA members a 25% discount on tuition and one complimentary week of vacation. Full Story...

Alumni Admissions Ambassador Program off to a great start
The offices of Undergraduate Admissions and Alumni Relations recently launched the Alumni Admissions Ambassador Program (AAAP), which seeks to facilitate alumni involvement in undergraduate recruitment programs. In the past few weeks alumni have volunteered and teamed up with admissions representatives at out of state and local Metro Detroit area college fairs.  Full Story...

OUAA Alumni Awards Banquet a great success
The Oakland University Alumni Association celebrated six remarkable individuals as well as one extraordinary Charter Class at the 13th Annual Alumni Awards Banquet on Saturday, October 20 in the Oakland Center banquet rooms on the campus of Oakland University. More than 200 alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends came together for a magical evening honoring those who have made a great impact at OU and beyond. Full Story...

GrizzLink celebrates first anniversary in November
More than 1,700 OU alumni have joined the new online community which features social and professional networking. Your fall OU Magazine will once again include an ID number that you will need to login to GrizzLink. The ID is on the address label of your magazine, directly above your name, after the # sign and before the ///’s. The new OU magazine should arrive in your mailbox by the end of this month. Full Story...

Young Professionals of Rochester group forming
The Rochester Regional Chamber of Commerce together with the Oakland University Alumni Association announces a Young Professionals Group. Young Professionals of Rochester (YPR) strives to provide leadership and mentoring opportunities by advancing professional and business development with a focus on civic, cultural and educational interests for the benefit of Rochester, Rochester Hills and Oakland Township. There are five divisions of YPR: Professional Development, Social Networking, Mentoring Programs, Special Events and Civic/Philanthropy. Full Story...

Third annual OUAA Family Festival reaches new record
More than 1,200 people attended the third annual OUAA Family Festival on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, at the Shotwell-Gustafson Pavilion. Sponsored by the Oakland University Alumni Association, Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce, Oakland County Parks and Recreation, and Westview Orchards and Cider Mill of Romeo, this festival was a hit for all ages.  Full Story...

Theatre Ensemble announces 2007-08 Meadow Brook Theatre season
The Theatre Ensemble’s 2007-08 Meadow Brook Theatre season has been announced. Season subscriptions are available from $97 to $162; single tickets per performance range in price from $22 to $38. Sudol appointed CAS dean
At its Aug. 15 meeting, the OU Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Ron Sudol to the position of dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. He has served as the college’s interim dean for the past two years and held a host of other positions at Oakland. OU offers new M.Ed. in teacher leadership
Oakland University’s School of Education and Human Services is offering an exciting two-year teacher leadership cohort program comprised of 35 credit hours with a teacher friendly schedule of once-monthly Saturday meetings augmented by online sessions. Full Story...

Around Town

Everybody loves a parade!
Members of the Oakland University Alumni Association saw another great benefit to membership earlier this month. In partnership with the Rochester Chamber of Commerce, Oakland University was provided 100 seats in a special OU bleacher section at the Rochester Hometown Christmas Parade. OUAA members with valid e-mail addresses were given first chance at tickets for these seats, which sold out after just one day! Full Story...

November MiLife MiTimes highlights Michigan's entrepreneurs
Check out the latest edition of MiLife MiTimes, a monthly e-magazine highlighting hot topics in Detroit. This month, young entrepreneurship is the focus, with articles on Quicken Loans' move downtown, local companies investing in the virtual real estate of Second Life, and a new idea called ParkingCarma being implemented by an MSU grad. Also included are the regular sections: Travel, Lifestyle, Careers, Green, and Creative.
