MEET OUR NEW STAFF!
Denise Jones joined the CMI team on January 21 as the Retention Coordinator for the Center for Multicultural Initiatives. Her primary responsibilities include, monitoring scholarship requirements of over 150 students and supervision and leadership development of the CMI Peer Mentor team. Additionally, Ms. Jones develops, implements, and monitors retention strategies to ensure student success, and interacts with student organizations to develop a strong rapport between students and the CMI office. Lastly, Ms. Jones oversees the programming of African American Celebration Month and is a member of the Michigan Counseling Association.
Barbara Smith joined the CMI team on February 11 as the Administrative Assistant. Her primary responsibility is to provide clerical support to the Director and his staff. Moreover, Barbara is the first point of contact for students who are seeking to apply for loans, scholarships or to make an appointment with a CMI counselor. Also, Barbara provides support by answering questions and directing student to apporpriate CMI and other campus resources. Finally, Barbara holds a degree in Business Administration from State University of New York at Buffalo and comes to us with over 20 years of business experience.

Eligible students will be able to take WRT 150 and/or MTH 118 this summer at the Charles Wright Museum of African American History at no cost. BECOME A 2013-2014 CORE AMBASSADOR
The CORE Ambassadorsare an essential component of the CORE Program. The Center for Multicultural Initiatives is seeking OU students that will continue the program's tradition of excellence while gaining solid leadership skills from the Ambassador experience.
Do you have what it takes to be a CMI CORE Ambassador?
Eligibility requirements include:
• Approved Work Study
• A minimum 2.65 cumulative GPA
• Enrolled full time in OU courses
• Demonstrated leadership ability
• Solid interpersonal skills
Application due: Friday, March 15, 2013, by 5:00pm in the CMI office.
