OU alumnus organizes Special Olympic Torch run in Iraq
Since 1968, the 728th Military Police (MP) Battalion annually participates in the Troy Barboza Special Olympics Torch Run in Hawaii. This year, the battalion is deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom but the members don’t want to give up their annual event. OU alumnus and Second Lieutenant Jody Holeton, CAS ’00, is helping to organize a 5k Special Olympic Torch Run on Contingency Operating Base Speicher, in Iraq. Full Story...

Scholarship profile: Jenessa Betts
Jenessa Betts, winner of the 2007 Thomas A. Yatooma Memorial Scholarship, is pursuing a double major at Oakland University. Now in her senior year, Betts will graduate in May with a bachelor of science in computer science and a bachelor of arts in mathematics. Full Story...

Royal Park Hotel brunch and Meadow Brook Theatre event
Join fellow OU alumni and friends for a special brunch and theatre event on Sunday, March 30, featuring “Moonlight and Magnolias” at Meadow Brook Theatre. Written by Rob Hutchinson, “Moonlight and Magnolias” is a delightful new play that takes audiences into the inner sanctum of 1939 Hollywood for one hilarious week as three icons of the film industry battle over how to save what became one of greatest movies ever made, "Gone With the Wind." Alumni and students have an opportunity to network at this unique event hosted by the OUAA, OU Student Congress, and Future Alumni Network on Tuesday, April 8, 2008, 5-7 p.m. in the Oakland Center Banquet Rooms. Oakland University alumni and friends will gather at the 14th annual Alumni Awards Banquet on Saturday, November 8, 2008, to honor those who have achieved success in business, community service, volunteerism and more. An Evening with Regina Carter, CAS ’85

Alumna violinist Regina Carter, CAS ’85, joins Carla Cook to present the "Regina Carter Sextet - Black Bottom Project" at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra on Thursday, May 15. A reception will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Atrium with dinner at 6:30 p.m. in the Music Box, featuring a special appearance by Regina Carter. AAAP hosts student welcome receptions
Oakland University Alumni Admissions Ambassadors have had opportunity to meet and greet newly admitted OU students and their families during the 2008 winter Welcome Receptions. Held in the banquet rooms on Oakland University’s campus, these receptions provide newly admitted students and their parents a meaningful evening with an opportunity to hear directly from Oakland’s leaders.  Full Story...

GrizzLink is the place to be for OU alumni!
GrizzLink is the place to be for more than 2,875 Oakland University alumni who are members. Alumni join for many reasons: to find past OU friends, post their resume or Class Note news, or because they need their Grizzly ID to access the university's  SAIL transcript information. It's easy to join and free to Oakland alumni. The OU Magazine includes an ID number that you will need to login to GrizzLink. The ID is on the address label of your magazine, directly above your name, after the # sign and before the ///’s. The next issue should arrive in your mailbox by late spring. Full Story...

Rec Center offers spring deals
Get in shape for swimsuit season! The Oakland University Recreation Center invites you to purchase a half semester membership for just $100 per person. These half semester memberships go on sale March 5 and are valid through May 4, 2008. OUAA members are eligible for the great annual Rec Center membership rate of $440 and can sign up for an annual membership anytime. All Rec Center members have access to a 50 meter pool, a three-court basketball gym, fitness center and weight room with over 100 pieces of equipment, a 177-yard indoor track, three racquetball courts, a cycling room, aerobic studios, and much more. Members can attend more than 25 free group exercise classes and enjoy complimentary equipment rental, locker usage, and court reservations. Full Story...

The 13th Annual Educators Recruiting Day, presented by Oakland University's Career Services Department, is Wednesday, April 30, 2008, in the Oakland Center Banquet Rooms. “Living with Autism” workshop to feature Jenny McCarthy
Parents, educators, and the general public will have the opportunity to hear from several local experts on a wide range of topics relating to autism on April 16 at the Troy Hilton. Workshop facilitators include medical experts from Henry Ford Health System and faculty members from Oakland University School of Education (OUCARES) and the Kaufman Children's Center.  Full Story...

Celebrate Earth Day at OU
Upland Hills Ecological Awareness Center and Oakland University are hosting the third annual Earth Day Expo, Michigan's largest Earth Day celebration. The expo will be held on the OU campus at the Oakland Center on Saturday, April 19, from 11 a.m. 6 p.m. It will a provide a wide variety of fun and informative activities including green exhibits, speakers, organic food, film festival, door prizes, renewable energy displays, kids' activities and entertainment. Brooksie Way half marathon to start, finish at OU
The grounds of Oakland University will be the start and historic Meadow Brook Hall will be the finish line for the inaugural Brooksie Way Half Marathon, Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson announced Friday, Jan. 4. Patterson made the announcement at Meadow Brook Hall with officials from the Crim Fitness Foundation, which is co-sponsoring the race with Oakland County. Also in attendance were representatives from Oakland University, the cities of Rochester and Rochester Hills and the Paint Creek Trailways Council. Full Story...
