Members of Oakland University’s University Communications and Marketing Department (UCM) recently pulled in multiple awards -- including the prestigious Best of Show -- at the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Detroit’s 32nd Renaissance Awards.

“The awards that the UCM team took home demonstrated an impressive shift in communication with OU constituents,” said Bryan Cain, director of Integrated Marketing. “Our focus on the audience and user of the OU publications and websites has been awarded for its innovative take, which no longer reflects the hierarchy of the institution, but the needs of all OU audiences.”

UCM is the strategic and creative powerhouse behind Oakland's external and internal message and brand. The department provides targeted services in advertising, writing and editing, web development and graphics, print design, photography, videography, social media, media relations and more.

Several UCM staff members were recognized for their outstanding work in print and online marketing communications.

An Award of Excellence and Best of Show Award for electronic and digital communications honored the OU Student Financial Services website redesign by Bryan Cain, director of Integrated Marketing, Melinda Booth, admissions marketing manager, Colleen Campbell, online media specialist, Kathleen Angel, graphic designer, and Vadim Garber, senior web developer.

The OU Research Magazine received an Award of Honor. The award recognized the work of Lillian Lorenzi, director of constituent communications, Susan Thwing, marketing writer, Debra Lashbrook, art director and Rick Smith, photographer.

Lastly, an Award of Merit for publications and magazines went to OU Magazine and its team Lillian Lorenzi, director of constituent communications, Kevin Knapp, writer, Debra Lashbrook, art director and Rick Smith, photographer.
