Monday, January 21, 2013 - OU honors MLK legacy with Keeper of the Dream celebration
The Oakland University community gathered together today to honor the legacy of the late civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with the 21st annual Keeper of the Dream Scholarship Awards Celebration.

The event welcomed famed entrepreneur, fashion mogul and marketing expert Daymond John as keynote speaker, and also featured a special visit and remarks from Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder.

Established in January 1993, Keeper of the Dream provides scholarships to students who have demonstrated strong citizenship, scholarship and leadership in helping to realize King's vision. Since its inception, more than 80 students with a wide variety of academic majors have won the award.

This year, political science major Bria Ellis, communications major Charles Lapastora, and education major Steven Wynne were honored.
