Professor Richard E. Haskell retired this month after a respected career that spanned nearly five decades at Oakland University.

Haskell, a professor of engineering in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in Oakland University’s School of Engineering and Computer Science, received his Ph.D. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1963, and has been on the faculty at Oakland since 1966. He has worked for General Electric in Schenectady, NY, KMS Industries in Ann Arbor, and served as Director of Research and Development at Industrial Holographics, Inc., Auburn Heights, Michigan, while on leave from the University in 1977-78. He has also worked in government laboratories at the Air Force Cambridge Research Laboratories and at the Johnson Spacecraft Center. He has consulted with several industrial firms in the areas of optical inspection, microprocessors, embedded control systems, and pattern recognition.

Professor Haskell’s research interests have included plasma physics, holography and coherent optics, pattern recognition and image processing, computer learning, and microprocessor applications and embedded systems.
