Friday, October 11, 2013 - Annual awards banquet to honor outstanding OU alumni

The Oakland University Alumni Association (OUAA) will honor alumni who have achieved success in business, community services, leadership and volunteerism at the 19th annual Alumni Awards Banquet on Friday, Oct. 25. 

The banquet will begin at 6 p.m. in the Oakland Center Banquet Rooms with a dinner and program to follow at 7 p.m. Alumna Lauren Podell, a Local 4 news reporter and anchor, will serve as the mistress of ceremonies and music will be provided by OU music students. 

Tickets are $100 per person. A table of 10 may be sponsored for $1,000.

Bernard Kent
Financial adviser Bernard Kent, JD, CPA, PFS and a 1971 College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) graduate, will receive the Distinguished Alumni Service Award. This is the highest alumni honor awarded and it recognizes peerless volunteer leadership in service to OU or its alumni association.

Along with Kent, the following outstanding Grizzlies will be recognized at this year’s banquet:

Joseph A. Helper, Ph.D., CAS ’88 – Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award
Michael Kenny, CAS ’77 – Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award
Jeffrey Frankowiak, Ed.D., SEHS ’04, ’06, ’12 – Odyssey Award
Thomas Mittelbrun, III, SBA ’88 – Spirit Award
Alexis Anne DeCapua Collins, CAS ’05 – Outstanding Young Alumni Award
Rick Williams, SBA ’06 – Outstanding Young Alumni Award
Judith Hoppin, SEHS ’78 – Alumni Community Service Award
Judith K. Brown, Ed.D. – Honorary Alumni Award

The OUAA works to connect alumni and friends with Oakland University community through a variety of engaging programs and events. Membership is open to all OU graduates and those who have received academic certification from the university.
