Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine hires new Associate Dean of Student Affairs

After a nationwide search, we are pleased to announce that Sandra S. LaBlance, Ph.D., will be the new Associate Dean for Student Affairs at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine where she will be responsible for the programming that supports the vast and varied educational experiences that impact OUWB medical students.

Dr. LaBlance is an accomplished leader having held positions of academic authority as an Assistant Dean at Loyola University Chicago and as Director of Academic and Career Counseling at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.

At OUWB, as Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and Career Development, Dr. LaBlance has successfully prepared medical students for their residencies by assisting them in achieving matches at some of the most prestigious residency programs in the United States including the University of Michigan, Stanford, Yale and Harvard.

Additionally, Dr. LaBlance has contributed to the growth of the Student Affairs department by setting its strategic vision and mission along with advising medical students, M1 through M4 years, and developing policies, resources, events and educational programming for them.

At Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Dr. LaBlance was a Clinical Research Associate who was funded by an NIH grant for clinical research on the topic “Pivotal Career Decisions Guiding Potential Women Science Faculty.” During her career at Loyola University, she earned the Advisor of the Year Award and the Women’s Excellence in Leadership Award. She is a published author and has presented her research at conferences nationwide and in Canada.

Dr. LaBlance received her master’s degree and a doctorate in higher education administration at Loyola University Chicago.
