Minors

The department offers several minors for majors in other disciplines. See the Major-Minor Flyer.

Liberal arts minor in mathematics
This minor is available to all students except those majoring within the department or in the School of Engineering and Computer Science. Twenty credits are required, chosen from MTH 1555 (155), 2554 (254), 2775 (275); APM 2555 (255) (or APM 257), 2663 (263); STA 2226 (226); MOR 2442 (242); or any 300–400 level courses labeled MTH, APM, MOR, or STA, except MTH 4997 (497). Each course used to satisfy the minor requirement must be completed with a grade of at least 2.0.

Secondary teaching minor in mathematics
To qualify for this minor, students must take 28 credits, consisting of MTH 1554 (154)-1555 (155), APM 2663 (263), STA 2226 (226), MTH 3002 (302), MTH 4662 (462), and SED 4100 (427) (math section, previously called SED 426), with a grade of at least 2.0 in each, and an average of at least 3.00.

Minor in applied mathematics
This minor is designed for students majoring in the School of Engineering and Computer Science. Twenty-two credits are required, with a grade of 2.0 or better in each: MTH 2554 (254), 2775 (275), 3002 (302), either 4552 (452) or 4775 (475); STA 2226 (226) (or another statistics course approved by the departmental adviser); and one course chosen from among APM 2555 (255) (or 257), 2663 (263), MOR 2442 (242), or any 3- or 4-credit 300–400 level courses labeled MTH, APM, MOR, or STA, except MTH 4997 (497).

Minor in applied statistics
To qualify for the minor in applied statistics, students must take a minimum of 20 credits of STA courses, including STA 2226 (226), STA 4002 (402), and at least three other STA courses at the 300 level or above, excluding STA 5001 (501) and STA 5002 (502). Each course used to satisfy the minor requirements must be completed with a grade of at least 2.0.
