María Cecilia Saenz-Roby joined Oakland University as an Assistant Professor in 2008. She teaches Spanish language and Hispanic American and Afro-Hispanic literature, culture, and civilization. She is also the sponsor of the Spanish Club and the Gear Up for Spanish at the Department of Pre-College Programs at OU since Fall 2008. She is the editor of “Nuestras Voces: A Poetry and Prose Journal” (DMLL journal). Professor Saenz-Roby believes in offering OU Spanish students opportunities to improve their language skills and cultural knowledge outside the classroom through volunteering activities in different Oakland County organizations. Her primary research agenda include the foundational narrative of Hispanic American countries and Equatorial Guinea, as well as the study of the (mis)representation of minorities groups in their respective national memories.
