Romanticism, Realism, Literary Theory, Film

Robert Mottram's dissertation, "Novalis, Nietzsche and the Rhetoric of Enchantment," explores many questions of theory and aesthetics that continue to provide the impetus for new research. Issues of truth and aesthetics, mimesis and the body, music and representation, as well as the cross-pollinations of aesthetics and politics remain at the center of his research. Currently this is taking the form of articles on Gustav Mahler and Werner Herzog. Dr. Mottram has taught a variety of courses from German language at all levels, to asceticism in German literature, to film form and theory in a German context.
