and community activities. For current students, this is the place to find information about classes,
auditions, and rehearsal schedules. Also, please feel free to contact us if you have questions.
The Oakland University Jazz Program provides many opportunities for students. Our Jazz Ensemble,
Jazz Combos, and Contemporary Music Ensemble perform around the Metro Detroit area, and have
featured such guest artists as Regina Carter and Doc Holladay. OU offers jazz classes in Jazz Theory,
Jazz History and Analysis, and Arranging. Exciting new additions to the program are coming soon,
so please keep checking the website for more details.

Below you'll find information for Winter 2013's jazz band auditions.
Audition Days:
Thursday, January 3rd from 4-7pm
Friday, January 4th from 9:15am-12:00pm
I'll ask you to:
1. Play "Oleo" or another bebop tune of your choice. You may also play a transcription of an improvised jazz solo, or a jazz etude.
2. Sight read a passage from a big band chart.
3. Improvise on a jazz tune. (optional)
I've included "Oleo" for your use. Rhythm section players are encouraged, but not required to play the melody to the tune.
There will be a sign-up sheet on the Jazz bulletin board outside of my office, Varner Hall Room 313. The auditions will also take place in this room.
