About Guided Imagery
| Guided imagery can be one of the most potent tools that individuals have to manage stress, relax, set and reach goals, change attitudes and tap into the subconscious mind and inner wisdom. Guided imagery can be an effective complementary tool that may be used with talk therapy and the healing arts. The workshop will provide hands-on learning and practical application. |

- Basic principles of Guided Imagery and interactive guided imagery techniques in a therapeutic setting
- Use as a complementary tool in counseling and wellness
- Step-by-step skills to incorporate guided imagery into practice, interact with clients/patients to facilitate their own healing potential through visualization
- Hands-on practice using these modalities, including creating your own scripts for clients
- Application with cancer patients, and clients/patients experiencing anxiety, depression and grief.
- Use and limitations, when guided imagery is appropriate and when it is not

Kathleen A. Aseltyne, Workshop Leader
Kathleen A. Aseltyne is a doctoral candidate in Counseling and Education at Oakland University. She earned a MA in Counseling from Oakland University. Aseltyne holds graduate certificates in both Mind-Body Medicine and Bereavement. She is a certified hypnotherapist.
Research areas of interest include complementary and alternative medical modalities as they apply to counseling, wellness, pain management, hospice/palliative care and bereavement.
Aseltyne has studied mindfulness with Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD, the relaxation response with Herbert Benson, M.D., and interactive guided imagery with David Bresler, PhD, and Martin Rossman, M.D. |
