Nicholson Apartments
The Ann V. Nicholson apartments have four single bedrooms, each with a full bed, dresser, desk and chair. Each unit has two bathrooms, a laundry room with full size washer/dryer, a furnished living room/dining room, and a full kitchen with refrigerator, stove, microwave, garbage disposal and dishwasher. All apartments are fully carpeted and have central air-conditioning. All units are smoke-free.

Basic Services
All rooms in both Hamlin Hall and the Nicholson Apartments come with window blinds and lighting. Telephone service is not available. Cable TV service (you will need to provide the TV and cable cord), and wireless internet service (service fee required) are available to all rooms and apartments. Open parking at the apartments and across from Hamlin Hall is available to hostel residents free of charge. The Hamlin Hall reception desk provides general information for incoming guests, conducts check in/check out, sells stamps, makes change, distributes mail, etc.
What To Bring
For both the Nicholson Apartments and Hamlin Hall, hostel residents need to bring: bedding, pillows, towels, hangers, alarm clock, laundry supplies, and if desired, a cell phone, TV with cable cord, and a computer. You will also need to bring your own cooking utensils/dishes. You may want to bring fans if you choose to live in Hamlin Hall. Hamlin double room residents may wish to bring mini-fridges and/or microwaves. A limited supply of mini-fridges may be available for rent; you may check availability upon arrival (may not be reserved in advance). Do not bring: pets, halogen lamps, candles, incense, hot plates, window air-conditioners, room phones and/or answering machines.
Food Service
A meal plan is not included as part of the rent for the Hostel Program. The Vandenberg Cafeteria and the Oakland Center Food Court are available to Hostel residents on a cash basis. Dining hours are limited during summer months. Several restaurants and grocery stores are located adjacent to campus and vending machines are located in the clubhouse.
Parking
Parking is available to hostel guests free of charge at the Ann V. Nicholson Apartments. For more information on parking, visit the Parking at OU webpage.
Recreational Facilities
Hostel guests may purchase guest student memberships for the Recreation Center located on campus. Facilities include weight room, indoor track, pool, racquetball courts, and gymnasiums. Use is subject to availability during posted open recreation hours. Outdoor basketball, volleyball courts, softball diamonds, soccer fields, and two golf-courses (additional fee) are all located on campus.
Upon Arrival
Students will need the first month's rent, in the form of cash, money order, or traveler’s check. In addition, students will need a letter from his/her employer verifying employment as an intern, co-op student or researcher. A copy of an offer/hire letter from the employer will be acceptable. Students will also need a letter from his/her college or university indicating that he/she is a current student in good standing. This letter must be on letterhead, dated and signed with contact information by an adviser, professor, secretary, etc. A form letter from the registration office stating “current student in good standing” is acceptable. These letters may be faxed to (248) 370-3340 or may be brought to check-in. Hostel guests must sign an agreement that states they will follow Oakland University Housing policies and procedures and will not be taking classes at Oakland University while residing in the Hostel. Students who have graduated are not eligible for this program unless they are going on to graduate school.
Reservation Process
To make a reservation for OU’s Hostel Program, complete the Hostel Program Reservation Form and submit it to the University Housing Office.
