How to Setup Outlook 2010

You must enable IMAP (or POP) in the Webmail powered by Google settings at http://webmail.oakland.edu/


  1. Click Settings in the upper-right corner
  2. Select the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab
  3. Click Enable IMAP or Enable POP for all mail
  4. Click Save Changes

Synchronize your password at https://netid.oakland.edu/gmailsync/

  1. Enter NetID Username
  2. Enter NetID Password
  3. Click Submit
  4. The password must contain 8 -15 alphanumeric characters, must have at least one number and one alphabet and cannot be the same as your two previous passwords.

Account unlock service - Unlock Captcha at https://www.google.com/accounts/UnlockCaptcha

  1. Enter your NetID as username
  2. Enter your NetID password
  3. Click Submit



  1. Open Microsoft Office 2010
  2. Click File
  3. Select Add Account
  4. Select Account Settings
    1. enter information for your name, Email address(including @oakland.edu), and netid password
    2. Select manually configure
    3. Click next.
  5. Select Internet Email and click next
  6. Under User information:
    1. Verify your name
    2. Verify Email address(including @oakland.edu)
  7. Under Server Information
    1. Select the Account type(IMAP or POP)
    2. Enter imap.gmail.com or pop.gmail.com
    3. Enter smtp.gmail.com for Outgoing mail Server(SMTP)
    4. make sure the User Name: includes @oakland.edu

  1. Click more settings.....
    1. Select the Advanced Tab
      1. Select SSL for type of encryption connection:
      2. Enter 587 for Outgoing server (SMTP):
        1. Select TLS for type of encrypted connection:
  2. Select the Outgoing server tab
    1. Click My outgoing server(SMTP) requires authentication and click ok
  3. Click next, then finish
