How to Change your Banner Password

How to Change your Banner Password

This document will explain how you can change your Banner password. You will be forced to change your Banner password every 90 days, but you can change your Banner password anytime within the 90 days. Please be aware that your Banner password is different than your ADMNET password. This document explains how to change your Banner password, not how to change your ADMNET password.

Step 1: You will need to log into Banner to change your Banner password. Each database has a different password. For example if you change your password for PROD, this change will not take effect for the Banner test database. You have to change the password in each database separately if you wish to keep them all the same. To begin, log into Banner as you normally would. If you have submitted one or more sleep/wake processes, such as a schedule, transcript, or receipt printing process, you must stop those processes before continuing, to avoid locking your Banner account.

Step 2: Select “Change Banner Password” Select “Change Banner Password” in the right-hand column under My Links of the homepage. A dialog box is shown below.

Step 3: Change Your Password A dialog box such as the one shown below lets you change your password.

Type your existing password into the Oracle Password: field. Type your new password into both the New Oracle Password: and the Verify Password: fields.

Your password must be at least 8 characters in length and should meet the following guidelines: Characters should include:

  • Letters (a, b, c, A, B, C, etc.); however, note that case is ignored in Banner passwords.
  • Numbers (1, 2, 3, etc.).
  • and MAY include the underscore special character (‘_’); however, no other special characters are allowed.
  • Passwords must use at least 2 letters and 2 numbers.
  • Numbers or the underscore must not be the first or last character in the password.
  • No consecutive repeating characters may be used, for example: (mm, 44, , etc.)
  • Examples of strong passwords: h4p_pyday, h31L0_u, go0d_dAy, t1tanIc

Click Save icon to apply password change.

NOTE:  Due to an open Banner defect, using GUAPSWD to change your Banner password may result in an ORA-306500 error, which occurs when Banner attempts to reconnect your current session using the new password.Another error that may occur is FRM-40735, verify_pass_trigger_raised_unhandled_exception, ORA 04067 Despite these error messages, your password change WAS accepted. Until the defect is resolved, the workaround is to close your current Banner session, and open a new Banner session, logging in with your new password.

Step 4: Verify the Password Change You will get a message that says “Password has been changed, reconnecting”. Click on OK. Next, you may get an error saying that a “connection could not be made”. Click on OK. You will see the logon screen reappear. Type in your Banner login name, your new password, and your database and you should be able to access the system.
