 n class="content">The use of animal assisted therapy dates back hundreds of 
 years. Famed nurse Florence Nightingale saw the value in animal assisted the
 rapy, as did the York Retreat in London in the 1700s to help infirm patients
 . Oakland University’s Animal Assisted Therapy Certificate program addresses
  several health and social issues, including an increased need for alternati
 ve, innovative and holistic practices. Utilizing animal assisted therapy in 
 educational, therapeutic and health care settings benefit at-risk children a
 nd adolescents, the elderly and other special-needs populations. <br />\n</s

 urth cohort in the Fall of 2011 which\nwill run consecutively through Spring
  of 2012. The 2012-2013 cohort will\nbegin in the Fall. The program is compl
 etely online with a couple of\nthe assignments involving meeting with people
  in the field in your area\nand visiting an animal sanctuary, <br />\nshelte
 r, farm, etc. The program includes five consecutive 8-week modules in the fo
