 ntent">The controversial nature of conversion from one\n            religiou
 s group to another is a topic that is rarely discussed and\n            nuan
 ced among scholars of three major religious groups in the world:\n          
   Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Because these groups are significant\n  
           members of the immediate and surrounding communities of Oakland\n 
            University, this colloquium offers students and local residents t
 he\n            opportunity to explore the process of religious conversion i
 n and among\n            these groups.</span></p>\n            <p><span clas
 s="content">The format will be colloquial in nature and\n            design,
  with brief opening remarks by each expert panelist followed by\n           
  an interchange led by the Moderator. After that exchange, the moderator\n  
           will monitor an exchange between attendees and panelists. This eve
 nt\n            promises to be a foundational event for people interested in
  hearing how\n            religious groups make sense of conversion narrativ

 s</span></p>\n            <p><span class="content">Víctor H. Cuartas (MDiv. 
 And DMin., Regent\n            University) is Assistant Professor of Practic
 al Ministry and Global\n            Missions at Regent University’s School o
 f Divinity in Virginia. &nbsp;He is\n            the author of <em>Empowerin
 g Hispanic Leaders: An Online Model.</em> He\n            recently started a
 s a PhD candidate at the Oxford Center for Mission\n            Studies on t
 he topic of the conversion of Latinos in the United States\n            to I
 slam.</span><span class="heading_small"><br />\n            </span></p>\n   
          <p><span class="content">Henri Gooren (Ph.D. Anthropology, Utrecht\
 n            University) is Associate Professor of Anthropology at Oakland\n
             University. His research focuses on conversion in Roman Catholic
 ism,\n            Protestantism, Pentecostalism, and Mormonism in Latin Amer
 ica.\n            Palgrave-Macmillan published his book <em>Religious Conver
 sion and Disaffiliation</em> in 2010. He recently finished fieldwork researc
 h in Paraguay and Chile, sponsored by the John Templeton Foundation.</span><
 /p>\n            <p><span class="content">Michael Weiss (Ph.D. Mathematics a
 nd Education,\n            University of Michigan) is Assistant Professor of
  Mathematics Education\n            at Oakland University. His research inte
 rests include mathematical\n            knowledge for teaching secondary mat
 hematics, the teaching of high\n            school Geometry, teaching a math
 ematical sensibility and mathematical\n            thinking and learning of 
 home-educated children.</span></p>\n            <p><span class="content"><br
