Bernard Woma is the greatest living performer of the Dagara gyil, a xylophone from the West African countries of Ghana and Burkina Faso. Mr. Woma has shared the stage with celebrated artists including Maya Angelou, Yo Yo Ma, and Glen Velez. In this program Bernard Woma will share his extensive knowledge as both a composer and performer of African music. His presentation will focus on the cultural foundations of the Dagara gyil, improvisation in traditional African music, and his original compositions.
