About CIBRE

The Center for Integrated Business Research and Education (CIBRE) at Oakland University’s School of Business Administration is a collection of experiential learning programs and activities designed to advance student learning, faculty research and economic growth.

The root of CIBRE begins at experiential learning. From this root grows two core principles that support the program - integrative thinking and global understanding.

Experiential Learning
Experiential learning provides students with a range of opportunities to practice leadership, connect theory and practice, gain competitive differentiating skills and build on career-enriching foundations beginning their freshman year. Through the use of participation in active student organizations, teamwork in class projects, and engagement in community and business internships, CIBRE has integrated hands-on experiences with strong curricular foundations to deliver an outstanding business education.

Integrative Thinking
The power of integrative thinking is immeasurable. The ability to think - and act - beyond traditional boundaries and models allows successful organizations and their leaders to develop solutions that have the potential to transform their organization.

This process of renovation is created through CIBRE, not just by teaching integrative thinking whenever possible, but by engaging in activities within our curriculum, research and outreach. We educate students on the value of understanding issues across disciplines and cultures. Students are prepared to thrive in a constantly changing business world, as they contribute to their organization with an open mind and skill set that supports innovation and flexibility.

Global Understanding
CIBRE prepares graduates who can favorably perform in a global environment. Our education programs are tailored to provide students with the chance to gain international experience within a variety of settings, including face to face interaction, virtual meetings and small group discussions.

Existing programs are being modified, and new ones continue to be developed, in order to encourage more international students and scholars to participate. Faculty members reveal an in depth understanding with regard to international issues. Faculty have partnered with 40 universities in 17 countries on specific projects and discoveries that have helped to influence the future of business.
