Dr. Bennett received a M.S. Chemistry in 1978 an, in 1990, completed a Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Sciences with Specialization in Health and Environmental Chemistry from Oakland University.

She is currently President of J.R. Bennett Association Inc., DBA, Clymar Manufacturing Company. She is a member of the Oakland University Foundation Board of Directors, for which she serves as Secretary. She also serves on the Board of Directors as a member of the Executive and Planning Committee, the LLC Subsidiary Oversight Committee and the Community and Government Relations Committee.

Dr. Bennett has been a long-time friend of Oakland University and the Department of Chemistry. She has taught many courses in the department and holds the position of Adjunct Assistant Professor of Chemistry. Dr. Bennett and her husband, Ronald B. Bennett, established many endowments at Oakland University, including the Effie M. Bennett Scientific Maintenance Endowment, a Graduate Fellowship, and the James Morrison Thompson Undergraduate Fellowship. Dr. Bennett was also recognized by Oakland University in 1992 with the Distinguished Alumni Service Award.

The award ceremony for Dr. Bennett was held on April 14, 2004.
