Lauren DeMeyer and Jermyn Yohannan receive the Michael P. and Elizabeth A. Kenny Merit Scholarships for the Sciences

Two biology majors, Lauren DeMeyer and Jermyn Yohannan, have been awarded Michael P. and Elizabeth A. Kenny Merit Scholarships for the Sciences. Michael Kenny (CAS ’78) and his wife Elizabeth made a generous donation to create this College of Arts and Sciences scholarship for undergraduates majoring in biology, chemistry or physics.

DeMeyer, a junior from Eastpointe Michigan, is working toward a BS in biology with a minor in French. She works in the laboratory of Dr. Mi Hye Song of the Department of Biological Sciences, who studies genetic and molecular biology of centrosome assembly and its regulation using the nematode C. elegans. Her goal is to become a genetic counselor.

Yohannan is a junior from Troy Michigan majoring in biology with a minor in anthropology. He is a member of the honors college who participated in the Summer Undergraduate Program in Eye Research (SUPER) last year working on the structure of the retina with Dr. Andrew Goldberg of the Eye Research Institute. His goal is to be an optometrist.
