Center for Biomedical Research/Sigma Xi Research Festival

On Friday, March 27, the Center for Biomedical Research and Sigma Xi held the annual Research Festival. Poster sessions from students throughout the university were on display. Several faculty members generously served as judges, and three students were chosen as top poster winners: Rachana Chandran, Viktoria Mladenovik, and Mida Pezeshkian. A full list of the posters is given below.

Following the research festival, Dr. David Ginsburg of the University of Michigan Medical School presented the annual Sigma Xi lecture about “Bringing Genetics & Genomics to the Clinic: What, Where and When.” In the evening, the Sigma Xi annual banquet was held at Meadow Brook Hall. New inductees into Sigma Xi include:

  • Marisa Brake
  • Chris Brigolin
  • Jonathan Bucan
  • Cody Clark
  • Lauren DeMeyer
  • Anthony Duncan
  • Trevor Evans
  • Aaron Fetzer
  • Eric Fetzner
  • Suran Galappaththige
  • Derrik Germain
  • James Iordanou
  • Elizabeth Jankulovski
  • Alexander Johnston
  • Megan Kabara
  • Rita Kassab
  • Kathleen Lesich
  • Leilei Liu
  • Madelyn Messner
  • Lena Mishack
  • Christopher Powell
  • Shengnan Qiao
  • Elizabeth Scott
  • Kharananda Sharma
  • Sarah Smith
  • Gau Shoua Vue
  • Britni Walter
  • Jacob Woodside

Dr. Ginsberg again spoke at the banquet, telling stories about his life in science and offering insight and advice to the new inductees. Then Shailesh Lal, the president of OU’s chapter of Sigma Xi, and Randy Westrick, a professor at OU who trained with Ginsburg, presented Ginsberg with a plaque.
