S.A.F.E. Space Training for OUWB Faculty and Staff
2/17/2014, 11:00 AM - 12:15 PM
Attitudes and behaviors of administration, faculty, staff, and students in lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) education create the climate of a medical school. AAMC revealed in 2007 that medical students experience LGBT discrimination throughout their educational and clinical training. National medical regulatory bodies, including the AAMC, have called for improvement in the culture and climate of academic medical centers and medical schools towards LGBT individuals. The purpose of this training program is to offer an innovative medically-relevant Safe Space program in academic medicine. S.A.F.E. (Students, Administrators, and Faculty for Equality) Space Training consists of a team of dedicated team of students, administrators, and faculty members who are committed to providing a safe haven, a listening ear, and support for anyone dealing with issues related to sexual orientation or gender identity. They also educate themselves and the University community on current issues facing the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Questioning, and Asexual population.
