Jr. Golf League Series

This golf league for boys and girls ages 6-15 years old is a great way to meet new Jr. Golfers and build Tournament Experience.

Scheduled League Days: June 18, July 2, July 9, July 16, July 23, July 30, August 6, August 13 (Junior League Championship Day).

League Fee: $100 per player
Fee includes golf instruction and prizes throughout the season
Tee Times between 7:30am and 8:45am each week on the K-C Golf Course
$20 daily fee will be charged for greens fees and lunch

Junior golfers are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner while at the golf course and should be able to play either nine or 18 holes within a group of peers.

New Student Orientation - Part One

New students are required to attend a two-part orientation. During Part One of New Student Orientation, students will meet with their assigned academic adviser, register for classes, explore the campus and learn about university policies and resources and much more. Systematic Reviews

The volume of clinical research evidence is rapidly growing, and clinicians may find multiple research studies addressing the same clinical question. A systematic review answers a clinical question by finding and evaluating all available research evidence. It is a form of research that provides a summery of clinical studies on a specific clinical question, using explicit methods to identify relevant studies, critically appraise their quality, and synthesize the evidence. Clinicians may use systematic reviews to inform patient care decisions. The session will discuss the basic principles of systematic reviews and differences between systematic reviews and other types of reviews. It will review resources for systematic reviews and introduce the steps taken to conduct a systematic review on a given clinical question.

Learning Objectives:

• State the differences between a narrative review, systematic review, and meta-analysis

• Understand the importance of systematic reviews in evidence-based practice

• Review various ways to locate systematic reviews

• Describe the steps required to complete a systematic review

Career Exploration Camp for Teens begins

Oakland University invites high school students to explore careers and prepare for college in interactive summer camps.

Students will explore various careers through interactive, engaging sessions that include hands-on activities, field trips and presentations. Presented by Oakland University faculty experts, the sessions offer students:

a comprehensive look at current and emerging fields
highlights of the knowledge and skills required for jobs in each field
information concerning projected employment
steps to take now, while in high school, to begin preparing for their future.

The cost includes transportation for scheduled field trips, lunch, snacks and T-shirt.

Career Exploration Camp

Not sure where your career interests lie? Dive in and start exploring career fields in engineering, computer science, criminal justice, social work, business, medical fields, psychology, education and much more. This camp introduces students to various high-growth, high demand jobs of the future. To learn what career professionals in these fields do on a day-to-day basis, students participate in hands-on activities such as building a light bulb, developing a business strategy, touring the Macomb County court house and jail, and engaging in simulation exercises. Students visit Beaumont Hospital in Grosse Pointe to learn about health and medical careers in nursing, pharmacy, respiratory therapy, imaging, laboratory, and more. Sessions meet 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Thursday, May 16, 2013 - OU, partners to host Summit on Accelerating Innovation

This summer, Oakland University will join forces with the Suppliers Partnership for the Environment (SP) and Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) to present the Summit on Accelerating Innovation to Drive Sustainable Automotive Manufacturing Growth Across North America.

The Summit on Accelerating Innovation and will bring together North American automakers, suppliers, government representatives, academics and investment leaders to explore new methods of operation.

The goal is to explore and identify ways to boost advanced manufacturing processes and technologic innovations that will not only improve the overall environmental impact of automotive manufacturing, but offer a strong economic value as well.

“Oakland University is very excited to collaborate with Suppliers Partnership and the CEC to host the inaugural Summit on Accelerating Innovation on our campus in Oakland County,” said Louay Chamra, dean and professor of OU’s School of Engineering and Computer Science.

“Our faculty and staff keenly anticipate the opportunity to engage with leaders in the industry, and investigate opportunities in key areas such as educating tomorrow’s leaders in embracing innovative and sustainable thinking to prepare for future careers in the automotive sector.”

Set for Wednesday and Thursday, June 26-27, the summit will include an hour-long panel discussion hosted by the CEC to look at innovative and environmentally friendly work being done by SP members across North America. This panel discussion will be webcast live and include questions from participants at the event and online.

Bulletproof Your Success: How to Be A Good Mentor and Good Mentee

Being a mentor and/or a mentee should be a very disciplined process, and is much different than employing a business coach or a business management consultant from content learned, timeframe and cost. Come learn the specifics and benefits of being both a mentor and a mentee. John Schamante (www.clearvision.com), will end up the last 30 minutes of the lecture with his expert perspectives.

About the series

Oakland University business graduate students can take advantage of special registration offer as part of the business school’s sponsorship of the 2013 Bulletproof Your Success business lecture series presented by President and CEO of The Community House in Birmingham, Camille Jayne.

An established business leader, Jayne developed the series to help business professionals succeed in a difficult environment. The series covers the eight competency clusters she has identified to increase business effectiveness. The lecture series offers tools and processes attendees can start using immediately to help bulletproof their success in business.

The lectures, which take place the second Wednesday of every month from February through September 2013 at the Birmingham Community House from 11:30-1:30 p.m., run $35 per lecture, registrants can add a lunch for $10. The SBA sponsorship includes 10 registrations and lunch per lecture, which are available to SBA graduate students on a first-come basis. See information below on how to reserve your spot. If complimentary registrations are full the registration information below will close out, interested students are welcome to sign up as a paying attendee via The Community House online registration system here.

Each lecture also includes a personal “Success Pitstop Assessment,” a comprehensive questionnaire participants can use to rate their skills, leadership, traits, management style, experiential and factual knowledge, and talents/abilities to determine their “success bucket” score.

SBA graduate students interested in attending the lectures should email Paul Trumbull at trumbull@oakland.edu and with the following information: full name, email address, lecture date and indicate chicken or vegetarian lunch preference. Reservations should be placed by the 23 month preceding the lecture. The spaces are available on a first-come basis.

Business, Beyond the Basics

Monday - Thursday, July 15-18, 2013

Go beyond business basics in this camp where students learn what it takes to launch and run their own enterprise. Students participate in an extended group project to develop their own unique product and create their own company. Along the way, students engage in hands-on activities to learn the skills of a successful business person such as communication, time management, decision-making and planning. The camp wraps up with a field trip to the Macomb-OU INCubator where students present their final projects to a panel of professionals. Students receive feedback and tips to help them understand the competitive world of business and the skills needed to succeed. Sessions meet 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
