Senior art history major Corey Gross polishes an exquisite Russian tea set in preparation for an exhibition of Russian Icons and metalwork at Meadow Brook Art Gallery. As a research scholar, Gross worked for a semester with Assistant Professor of Art History Tamara Machmut-Jhashi on a paper about 13th- to 15th-century Novgorod School icons – religious works painted on wood using egg tempera. He was one of more than two dozen undergraduate and graduate students taking part in the provost-sponsored Student Research Scholar Program. Supported in part by the Oakland University Foundation, the program provides research stipends for a wide range of work and offers travel assistance to students who present their results at professional conferences.
