OU Moment

After more than four decades of educating and inspiring Oakland University students, Distinguished Professor of Political Science Sheldon (Shelly) Appleton retired at the end of last fall's semester. He timed his retirement so he could teach his favorite class, The American Presidents and Their People, one last time during an election year. Appleton and his wife, Betty, will continue making a difference in the lives of OU students through an endowment for what they call "critical difference funds" — a small amount of money that can make a big difference. The Appletons directed the fund to support political science and public administration majors, secondary education students with a political science major, and students in Music, Theatre and Dance.
