Actors 'break a leg' to help future physical therapists
OU acting students gave new meaning to the term "break a leg" when they served as volunteer "patients" for physical therapists in training. In a collaborative program between OU's Department of Music, Theatre and Dance and the School of Heath Science's Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) program, students from OU's Patient Management Course use the skills they've learned to help actor/patients learn to maneuver.

OU trustees, administrators, faculty and staff spent the winter and spring searching for ways to reduce spending while maintaining a focus on the university's core mission: educating students. But $5.5 million in spending reductions couldn't overcome a state budget crisis and its associated cuts to higher education funding.

Grant supports eye research
Oakland University's Eye Research Institute received a five-year, $1.1 million grant from the National Eye Institute for Vision Research Infrastructure Development. The award will support two laboratory research modules, Ocular Ultra Structure and Cell and Molecular Biology.
