Communication to AP Colleagues - January 15, 2009
Dear OU Administrative Professional Colleague:
On behalf of the AP Association Executive Committee, we hope you had an enjoyable holiday season and are off to a great start in 2009! The purpose of this communication is the update you on the activities of the AP Association since we last touched base on October 15, as well as to highlight several upcoming events!
As we hope you know, the primary focus of the Association is to provide a means of communication between all AP employees and the university in matters concerning wages, hours, and working conditions. By now you all have received the communication from AVP for Human Resources, Ron Watson indicating that FY09 compensation increases have been approved for eligible AP employees and will be included in the January pay cycle. Further, an appointed AP committee has been formed to review and recommend changes to the university’s compensation guidelines, which were last updated in 2002. That group has met once and is reviewing documents in preparation for the next meeting on January 20. Finally, both the administration and the Association have indicated a desire to update and propose changes to some of the components of the AP manual. We are just beginning that process and have targeted to submit those changes for consideration by the Board of Trustees for the April meeting cycle.
I invite you to visit the Association website that includes minutes to meetings, as well as rosters of the Executive Committee and Building Representatives. More detailed information regarding the activities of the AP Association is included in this website: http://www2.oakland.edu/apassociation/
The AP Association also is engaging in the following four activities in the next few months:
- The Annual Ultimate Fringe Benefit Social: Please hold the date of Friday, February 20, 2009 from 5-7pm in the Banquet Room of the Oakland Center. This traditional annual event provides an opportunity for colleagues to network and socialize. UFB Chair Tony Becker will provide additional information soon. Admission to the event is included in membership dues, which may be paid in advance or at the door.
- Annual Membership Drive: Membership in the AP Association is based upon a calendar year schedule. The benefits of the $20 membership dues includes the ability to hold office, vote on AP Association Business and to attend the Ultimate Fringe Benefit. Your building reps will be contacting you soon, or you may send you dues directly to Treasurer Sally Daniel in the Physics Department. We will also be collecting at the Ultimate Fringe Benefit.
- Executive Committee Elections: Elections will take place later in the Winter Semester for seats on the Executive Committee. We will be electing a president elect, treasurer, and 1 representative from the J-R band, S-X band and at-large. Please feel free to discuss with any current member of the Executive Committee your interest in any of these positions.
- The annual AP Association Open Forum will be held on Tuesday, May 12 at noon. Additional forums may be scheduled in conjunction with any proposed changes to the AP Manual.
Finally, the AP Association Executive Committee takes very seriously our duty and responsibility in representing the interests of our constituents. We invite communication from anyone regarding any topics.
Thank you for your attention and we look forward to seeing you!
AP Association Executive Committee
Greg Jordan, President
