Kick-Off Reception

January 27, 2012

The WISE@OU Kick-Off Reception celebrated and launched the WISE@OU program, funded by an ADVANCE PAID grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF).  The event was attended by several Oakland University STEM faculty members, in addition to Provost Virinder Moudgil, Assistant Vice President Leigh Dzwik, Associate Provost Michelle Piskulich, Vice Provost Dorothy Nelson, and Dean of SECS Louay Chamra.  The event discussed the program goals, which include: increased diversity of search pools, increased percentage of new STEM tenure-track faculty who are women or under-represented populations, increased percentage of tenured STEM faculty who are women or under-represented populations, and a percentage of women/under-represented populations at full professor in each academic unit.

Those in attendance discussed focus areas for the program.  These areas include policy review, exit interviews, and a welcome committee for new women/under-represented populations recruits.  With the goals set by the leadership team and involvement from OU's faculty, WISE@OU hopes to create a more diverse faculty in the sciences.
