Major in Accounting

Accounting is the process of identifying, recording and analyzing information necessary to evaluate the past, present and future economic activities of organizations. Accounting is often said to be the language of business.  Accountants apply their skills in areas such as auditing, taxation, financial analysis, information systems, management and policy. These services are provided to large and small businesses, not-for-profit entities, and governmental units.

Careers in Accounting

Professional careers are available in public accounting as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), in business organizations as a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), or as a holder of a Certificate in Management Accounting (CMA).  Success requires technical and communication skills, motivation and discipline. In addition, the ability to work well with others, to think creatively, and to solve new problems is important. Accounting professionals are individuals capable of doing more than maintaining a set of accounting records.   Accounting in the global business environment requires that individual accountants apply their intellect, perception, judgment and integrity to each assigned task.
