The Oakland Symphony Orchestra
Oakland University offers this semi-professional orchestra-in-residence to serve our academic mission and the community at large. With its unique structure, the OSO enables OU students, faculty and alumni the opportunity to perform the finest orchestral works in one of the region's highly regarded professional ensembles, an experience truly unique to OU. The OSO collaborates with the Oakland University Symphony Chorus, offers the best and brightest music students opportunities to perform as concerto soloists and provides the community with the opportunity to experience excellent live performances.
Gregory Cunningham, conductor
In his 15th year as director of Orchestral Studies at Oakland University and music director and principal conductor of the Oakland Symphony Orchestra, Gregory Cunningham also serves as the Doris and Paul Travis Associate Professor of Music and Director of Bands at Oakland University. In addition to his duties at Oakland, Cunningham is the music director of the Warren Symphony Orchestra (Warren, Michigan), is a frequent guest conductor of honor orchestras and bands throughout the Midwest, and serves as a guest conductor and clinician for many high school and middle school ensembles throughout the United State

15th Annual David Daniels Young Artists Concert

Symphony No. 7 in C Major, op. 105 by Jean Sibelius, and Fantasy and Fugue in c minor,
op. 86 by J.S. Bach, transcribed for orchestra by Edward Elgar. Also,
the David Daniels Young Artist Concert, an annual highlight of our
season, features solo performances by the winners of the 2012-2013
Oakland University Concerto Competition.

full majesty of Orchestra Hall will provide a fitting backdrop to the
Oakland Symphony Orchestra’s final concert of the season. In their
annual collaboration with the Oakland University Symphony Chorus, they
will perform Lord Nelson Mass by Franz Joseph Haydn and Symphony No. 5 in B flat Major, op. 100 by Serge Prokofiev. Gregory Cunningham and Michael Mitchell, conductors.
