Nominate a shining star for Employee of the Month! The OU staff Employee of the Month sets the standard at above and beyond. Their cheerful, upbeat attitude stands out among their peers and positively impacts working relationships. They consistently strive to work more efficiently and increase productivity. This person is invaluable to the OU team. Staff members who are selected for Employee of the Month receive much earned recognition as well as a designated parking space for 30 days, their name in lights on the sign at Adams/Walton and in the OC plus an invitation to a year end dinner with Dr. Russi and other VP's. Anyone can nominate a staff employee who is past probation and has not received Employee of the Month recognition during the last 5 years. Click on the Nominate link to complete the online form.

Open Enrollment and Benefits & Wellness Fair
It is that time of year again when you have an opportunity to make decisions about your benefits.
Remember this is the one time you can make changes to your benefits without experiencing a life status change. Any changes you make will be effective January 1, 2010 and continue until December 31, 2010.
Oakland University will kick off Open Enrollment with a Benefits and Wellness Fair. Our benefit providers will be on site to address any questions you may have regarding your coverage. There will also be vendors from our community on site to share helpful benefit and wellness related tips.

Health Benefit Informational Meetings
Representatives of the university's three medical plan providers will be on hand in Banquet Room A of the Oakland Center for informational presentations at 8:30 am and 10:30 am. on Wednesday, October 21. Participants will have an opportunity to learn more about the 2010 medical plans, as well as to ask questions. Click here to enroll in a session.
Pre-Retirement WorkshopIf you are 5 to 10 years from retirement and want an introduction to the retirement planning process, then this workshop may be ideal for you. Under the UHR Training Services menu option Available Training is where you'll find the link to SkillSoft™ and over 1500 course topics such as Interviewing, Recruiting, Team Building, Presentations, Microsoft Office 2007 (includes Visio, Project & Publisher) and for IT professionals – Web Design, Server Technologies, and Microsoft Certification.
SkillSoft™ is filled with practical information, distinctly user friendly, conveniently accessed from the internet, and compatible with adult learning styles. This software is animated, interactive, plus effectively uses audio and interval testing to move learners through the course work. SkillSoft™ also provides an abundance of support materials listed on each course overview page. Job Aids like surveys, checklists, and evaluations in addition to short articles on topics such as listening skills, applicant screening, and writing effective emails - called SkillBriefs - can all be printed for future reference.

Preventing Workplace Violence at Oakland University
The sad reality is that workplace violence can happen anywhere. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, homicides accounted for nearly 10% of all workplace fatalities in 2008. While trending downward from previous years, that number is still too high.
Oakland University seeks to educate everyone on campus with the training course "Preventing Violence at Oakland University". This 15 minute online presentation talks about campus violence, causes, warning signs and methods of prevention.
