GET CONNECTED: CIRCLE OF SISTERHOOD/CIRCLE OF BROTHERHOOD

The Circle of Sisterhood is a welcoming support group atmosphere where all women, in particular African, Hispanic and Native American women, feel safe, supported, and valued. They embrace one another as they share their experiences, insights, and words of encouragement with their fellow sisters.

The Circle of Sisterhood meets weekly on Thursday evenings from 5 - 6:30pm in the Heritage Room, OC. For more information, contact Denise Jones at (248) 370-4404.

The Circle of Brotherhood is a CMI group whose main goal is to support young men on campus and provide them with the resources they need to make it through college and lead a successful life, including a solid support group, connections to faculty and on campus leaders, and experiences that will help them gain a greater sense of self and responsibility.

The Circle of Brotherhood meets bi-weekly on Monday evenings from 5 - 6:30pm in room 125, OC. For more information, contact Arthur Hampton at (248) 370-4404.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

Yasmine Shitta is a freshman bio-chemistry major and a recipient of the Oakland University Trustee Academic Success (OUTAS) scholarship in the CMI.

Where did you grow up/go to high school? I attended Robichaud High School in Dearborn, Heights, but I didn't live in the area. I grew up in Wayne, MI.

Why did you choose Oakland University? I chose Oakland University because it is close to home, but I am still far away enough from home. Also I like the small campus, but big campus feel. Everything is close enough for me to walk to and it is easier to get to know people.

What are your goals while you are at Oakland University? My goals are to complete all of my classes with a 3.0 or better, establish relationships with people on campus, and graduate in four years or less.

What do you like to do in your spare time? In my spare time I like to study, shop, eat, and hang with my friends on campus.
