|OU professors awarded Pawley Institute Fellowships
The Oakland University Pawley Lean Institute is proud to announce the awarding of the Pawley Institute Dennis and Carlotta Pawley Endowment for Lean Learning in the form of four Pawley Institute Fellowships to OU professors.
The recipients are Mark Doman, visiting assistant professor in Human Resource Development; Bob Van Til, professor in Industrial and Systems Engineering; Shannon Flumerfelt, associate professor in Educational Leadership; and Gene Fliedner, associate professor of Operations Management within the Decision and Information Science department. |DTE Energy partners with OU for student internship |
Oakland University has partnered with DTE Energy to provide a Lean internship for one student in the Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) program.
This semester, Alex Bodea is completing his senior design project at DTE, an internship set up by the ISE department.
The project is a time study on gas distribution work, which consists of various works performed on gas pipes, most of which require digging and exposing the pipes. Full Story...

Medical Center in Rochester, Mich. for their senior design projects.

Jeffrey Johnston of Goal Advantage spoke at the Lean undergraduate
class, HRD 304: Lean Principles and Practices in Organizations.

|Flumerfelt leads Lean Thinking for Schools training in Traverse City|
Participants from the Traverse City area completed the Lean Thinking for Schools training this March led by Dr. Shannon Flumerfelt, director of Lean Thinking for Schools at the Pawley Lean Institute.
The 23 participants came from Traverse City Area Public Schools, Elk Rapids Public Schools and the Traverse Bay Intermediate School District. Full Story...
|Has your budget been reduced lately? Create and relate using Lean
Shannon Flumerfelt, PhD., Lean Thinking for Schools
After successive years of budget reductions, many school districts now face deeper cuts than anticipated because of state-based budget targets. According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (Feb. 8, 2011), state funding cuts are deeper now than they have been in the past two years for K-12 education (in 34 states) and for higher education (in 43 states), and that for 2012, cuts will continue and may be worse than 2011.
As school districts and institutions of higher education examine ideas such as consolidation, online learning, merit pay systems, privatization and service/Full Time Equivalent reductions, the pressure is mounting on school leaders to develop viable solutions that will enhance futures of sustainability.
