Automation of Things incorporated, and started its operations at the Macomb-OU INCubator, in January of 2014.

"The Macomb-OU INCubator is a very professional organization, and their staff has been extremely helpful and accommodating in getting us situated in the building. The incubator is a great place for a startup; not just for the facilities, which are excellent, but also for the staff who are very much in-tune with the challenges and needs of a startup and are always there to provide help and guidance. MAC-OU INC POSITIVE IMPACT
BUSINESS ACCELERATOR FUND PROGRAM

The Macomb-OU INCubator is currently the top business accelerator in garnering State of Michigan Business Accelerator Fund (BAF) dollars to assist client companies. Committee-approved applications total $360,072 with 12 out of 13 applications approved for a 92-percent approval rate. The next top two accelerators have 86- and 62-percent approval rates for committee-approved applications.

MAC-OU INC HOST TO BEST SHOT COMPETITION AND WORSHOP

Mac-OU INC hosted the MidMichigan Innovation Center's Best Shot Workshop and Competition this past month as an opportunity for local entrepreneurs to refine their sales pitch. The workshop details the necessary steps in obtaining a first customer, while the subsequent competition is the ideal opportunity for the entrepreneurs to receive constructive feedback on their sales pitch from a panel of judges.

Judges for the competition included Erik Meier of Sandler Training as well as Grace Hsia and Steve Wilson of the University of Michigan's First Customer Program (FCP). Nine competing companies presented a wide range of products and services. Winners for the evening were Travis Johnson of foodjunky, first place, and Greg Czymbor, honorable mention. Congratulations from Mac-OU INC to the two winners, as well as all who pitched their innovations!

The Macomb-OU INCubator was recently awarded $14,000 in Business Accelerator Funds (BAF) to provide accelerator services to client company Telemetrio LLC. The Macomb-OU INCubator is one of the top business accelerators in garnering State of Michigan Business Accelerator Fund dollars to assist client companies.

COUPON WALLET TRANSITIONS OUT OF BETA TESTING

Coupon Wallet, on-site client of the Macomb-OU INCubator, is excited to announce the conclusion of its beta program and the conversion of its first client into a fully-managed Coupon Wallet account. Dooley's Tavern in Sterling Heights and Mt. Clemens are now offering buy-one-get-one coupons via the Coupon Wallet app. Guests can download this app via iOS or Android. In addition, Coupon Wallet has recently partnered with Romeo Computer Company, a seasoned marketing firm, to provide managed digital-marketing services to its clients such as Dooley's Tavern.



MICHIGAN COUPLE TURNS HIKING EXPERIENCE INTO 3D VIRTUAL TOUR APP & TECH START-UP

Denny and Kevin Henson of Midland, Michigan have evolved their love of hiking trails, reading maps, and reliving history into a 3D, interactive virtual tour application for Web, mobile, and tablet devices. The award-winning, cloud-based software application of Map-N-Tour, Inc. can be used to create custom, media-rich tours for heritage tourism, historical and recreational trails, downtown and business districts, community profiling, events, genealogy and much more.

MICHIGAN DARPA MD.MFP
DARPA CYBER GRAND CHALLENGE FUNDING SUPPORT

Calling all Michigan cyber-patriots from academia, small business and industry to team-up and compete in this DARPA-sponsored automated security systems competition. The wining team from the Cyber Grand Challenge finals receives a cash prize of $2M, with second place earnings of $1M and third place taking home $750,000.

UNDERSTANDING & NAVIGATING DARPA RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT, A MICHIGAN SPONSORED WORKSHOP

The Michigan Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Matching Funds Program (md.mfp) final training for 2014 is officially scheduled for September 24, 10-5 p.m., at Ann Arbor SPARK Central. The purpose of the workshop is to provide attendees a broad overview of the DARPA program and teach them how to navigate the application process to compete for and win contracts. This free event is not yet open for registration, though seating is extremely limited. Therefore, for questions and registration interest, contact Stacey Frankovich at frankovi@oakland.edu.

BUTZEL LONG: $4 BILLION IN LOAN GUARANTEES FOR INNOVATIVE RENEWABLE ENERGY AND EFFICIENCY PROJECTS

On July 3, 2014, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced the availability of $4 billion in loan guarantees available for Innovative Renewable Energy and Efficient Energy Projects. Eligible projects must utilize an innovative technology or system and reduce, avoid or sequester greenhouse gases. DOE may guarantee up to 80% of an eligible project. While projects must be located in the U.S., projects may be foreign owned.

U.S. Army: "Maj. Gen. Bingham takes command of TACOM"

In a formal ceremony held this morning at the Detroit Arsenal, Maj. Gen. Gwen Bingham took over as the commander of the U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command (LCMC), succeeding outgoing commander Maj. Gen. Michael J. Terry. Officiating at the ceremony was Gen. Dennis L. Via, Commanding General, U.S. Army Materiel Command. Via told the audience that "Maj. Gen. Bingham is a trailblazer and exceptional Army leader."
