New ID Cards for Blue Cross Blue Shield Traditional, PPO and Vision Members
If you are a participant in one of the Blue Cross Blue Shield plans you will be receiving new ID cards in late June or early July. The Blue Cross Blue Shield plans involved include the Traditional Plan, PPO "A", PPO "B" and the BCBS Vision Plan. Blue Cross Blue Shield is making changes to their administrative system that require the issuance of new ID Cards. This change will not affect the coverage available in each plan.

Fidelity and TIAA-CREF On Campus
Representatives from TIAA-CREF will be available for one-on-one sessions on the following days:

Auto and Home Insurance with Liberty Mutual
As an Oakland University employee, you could save money on car and home insurance with Liberty Mutual. Your local Liberty Mutual representative, Michael Meyer, will be onsite providing coverage evaluations on the following dates:

2012 PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT PROCESS
By this time supervisors should have completed their employee's performance evaluation. The sections to complete are:
  • Rating on Job Duties
  • End of Cycle Comments on Goals
  • Supervisor's Overall Rating
  • Supervisor's Overall Comments
By the week of June 4th the supervisor and employee should meet to discuss performance.  All evaluations are due into UHR by June 18th.   Further information about the process is available on the UHR website at http://www.oakland.edu/uhr/perfmgmt/ or you may direct your questions to UHR at 3480.

Career Development – New Application – New Process – for Staff Requests Only
A new Career Development Application has been created. One application will now be used by employees, their dependent children, spouses, other qualified adults and children of other qualified adults. The new, online application is now available and will be used beginning with the Summer 1 session. Those applying for career development will be able to link to the new application from the UHR Career Development Page.  For more detailed instructions, please refer to this article

Changes made in the Division of University Relations!
To better engage our alumni in the life of the University the Division of University Relations has changed its name to Development, Alumni and Community Engagement and the Office of Alumni Relations is now the Office of Alumni Engagement. Please update your contact information accordingly.

Workers Compensation WorkFlow
A workers compensation claim begins when an employee suffers an occupational injury or illness. Occupational injuries result from work accidents or exposures involving the work environment (e.g., cuts, fractures, and sprains). Occupational illnesses include, but are not limited to, skin diseases, respiratory disorders, and poisoning. After an incident, the employee and administration both have responsibilities. Consistency and awareness of the process are necessary to handle claims. Online Learning
Increasing Your Knowledge with Online Learning
If there is one thing I have learned as a non-traditional O.U. student that is about to head back out into the corporate world, it's that companies are looking to attract and retain quality employees. It's not enough to just know the ins and outs of your job but it's about going above and beyond your daily duties to make sure the job gets done. It's about putting forth the effort to make yourself more knowledgeable and indispensable to that particular company. It's that knowledge that holds the key to your future, it's the one thing that nobody can take from you.
As a student I also know how time consuming and expensive it can be to keep up with the rapidly evolving skill set that is needed. That is why SkillSoft is such a great opportunity that is provided to O.U. employees.

Courses can be stopped and started, so you can take them during your lunch hour, at home, or whenever you have spare time...classes are on-line and this is provided to all employees for FREE! I have had the opportunity to take a few of these classes in organizational behavior. I find it very interesting to learn how you can improve the attitudes, perceptions and behaviors of employees at an individual level or within the organization. These courses were very interesting to me and easy to understand. To learn how to help your team members find ways to work well together is a skill set that I can take with me wherever I go.

Wealth Coach Joe Mackey is Coming to You!

The Office of Planned Giving will be hosting an informational evening seminar on Values-Based Financial Planning. Whether you are approaching retirement or just beginning to plan for your future, aligning your financial goals to your personal values will provide you with a satisfying long term financial plan.

Joe Mackey is a wealth coach and partner at the Auburn Hills based MKD Wealth Coaches. His presentation will discuss an approach to financial planning that offers more than following the directives of a financial advisor. Come learn how your mission, vision, and values influence your wealth; why who you are determines how you make financial decisions and the importance of identifying your Risk Type™.

The seminar is open to Oakland University faculty, staff, alumni, donors and friends of the university. Join us for dinner and this informative seminar on Wednesday, June 27th, from 5:30-7:15pm in the Recreation Center, Pioneer Room. Seating is limited, so reservations are required. 2nd Annual Employee Health and Fitness Day Poker Walk a Success!
The 2nd Poker Walk Challenge on May 16 saw 261 employees get out and walk in costumes, with cheers, doing dances, and showing lots of spirit! The one-mile fun walk drew teams from 34 different departments and 21 individuals for a chance to be dealt the best poker hand and win prizes! Click here to read more about the teams and awards! 

Building A Better yOU Website and Wellness Wheel Launched
A team of individuals from Human Resources and Campus Recreation have been working together to develop a new look website and wellness wheel to assist the campus community in easily locating resources for personal health and wellness. The new site and wheel was launched at the Poker Walk on May 16. It can be accessed at www.oakland.edu/betteryou.

The site, which includes the wheel, is the home for information on eight dimensions of wellness: physical, spiritual, social, occupational, environmental, intellectual, financial, and emotional. Employees should utilize the site to access information on events, programs, and resources both on campus and in the community that will help them achieve or maintain personal wellness in each of the dimensions. In addition, insurance vendor information is readily available on the site with links to health and wellness services provided at little or no cost to the employee.

Discussions surrounding the health and wellness of OU employees continue. As more information, programs, and opportunities for employees become available related to health and wellness, they will be added to the site and wheel. All employees are encouraged to take a quick look at the site and explore the resources that are already available, and to check back frequently to not to miss any updates!
