Performance Review Process for Oakland University Professional Support Association (OUPSA) and Oakland University Campus Maintenance and Trades (OUCMT) Employees
Clerical/technical and service/maintenance employees and their supervisors should watch their campus mailboxes for important information about the new Performance Review Process. Included in the mailing will be TEAMS (Total Employee and Management Source) login information and a Quick Reference Guide to help when participating in the review process.

Many employees and supervisors who will participate in the review process are not new to the TEAMS system. Those employees will log into the system with their same user name and password as they do when they create personnel requisitions. For the review process, they will, under Admin, "Change User Type" to Employee. Supervisors may be familiar with the system from filling positions, working on position descriptions, or working on non-represented employee evaluations. For the review process, supervisors will, under Admin, "Change User Type" to Evaluation Reviewer.

Not to worry if you've forgotten your password. A quick call to UHR at 3480 and it will be reset. If you are new to the TEAMS system, your user name and temporary password will be included in the mailing. You will be prompted to change your password at your first login.

Interactive training on the performance review process will begin in December. Please check the UHR website for training dates and times. Also, watch for more information on the performance review process website coming soon.

Online Learning
SkillSoft Course Review:
Microsoft Office Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook 2007

This SkillSoft online course talks about the new features in Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook 2007 and shows you how to use the new features. Some of the new features in Excel are:
  • Sharing feature which allows you to share business data
  • Formulating tool, which helps to minimize calculation errors, and enables you to specify the correct syntax as you enter a formula
  • Conditional formatting, which allows you to visually analyze the data.
New features for PowerPoint 2007 include:
  • New presentation dialog box, which consists of 3 presentation creation methods
  • Extended library of existing templates and themes on your computer.
  • Create your own custom layouts which can contain as many placeholders as you like
Finally, some of the new features for Outlook include:
  • Redesigned interface with a ribbon (you can only use the ribbon while composing emails, creating tasks and accessing contacts)
  • Enhanced search feature, which enables you to quickly search through your email, contacts and calendar.
The new features for Excel and PowerPoint were very helpful and it helped to see how and where I can use the new features. My favorite tool was conditional formatting, because it showed me different ways to set up a table and to highlight important information. Outlook is new to me but it seems the features they have added will benefit those who use Outlook on a daily basis.

In the SkillSoft Catalog, follow Desktop Curricula>Microsoft Office 2007>New Features>Microsoft Office Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook 2007 for this course.

Join us as we celebrate the 39th annual Holiday Walk at this 110-room Tudor-revival style mansion aglow with historic treasure. The Meadow Brook Hall Holiday Walk will highlight childhood treasures from Meadow Brook's heyday. This year's decorations offer a childlike sense of wonder, featuring period toys, trains and family photographs. Hundreds of bears from Judy Hall's whimsical Teddy Bear collection await holiday guests in Frances' and Danny's playrooms. Visitors will hear the story of Richard riding his tricycle through the gallery after receiving it from his parents for Christmas. Learn about Frances and Matilda's Christmas Eve tradition of wrapping gifts for the family and staff. On display will be the family Toboggan often used by Danny Dodge. During the weekends guests will be entertained with the showing of classic Christmas cartoons in the Ballroom, children's activities and more. Treasures of Childhood begins Friday, November 26th and runs through Wednesday, December 22. Tickets are $20 for adults, $5 for children 17 and under (accompanied by an adult); children age 2 and under are free. TIP OF THE MONTH

Cubicle Etiquette

Many Oakland employees have to share their space with their coworkers.  Cubicles are a nice way to provide boundaries and some privacy, but it isn't the same as having walls and a door.  Robert-Half, a major recruiting company, lists the top ten "rules" for living with cubicles in the workplace:

1. Be a courteous guest
2. Use your "library voice"
3. Curb casual conversations
4. Stay home with the sniffles
5. Have good scents
6. Ask before borrowing
7. Avoid decor disasters
8. Hit the right tune
9. Avoid phone faux pas
10. Be friendly

For more about these tips, check out the full article at the Cleveland Examiner.
