SUMMER 2011

LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR

On behalf of the Department of Campus Recreation, I would like to take a moment to thank you for choosing our facility as your destination to support your healthy lifestyle goals! We appreciate your decision and strive to meet and exceed your expectations. We also welcome your feedback and suggestions. I invite you to share any comments, concerns or suggestions with me directly, via my phone (direct line: 248-370-4888) or email: jordan@oakland.edu.

While the impact of the challenges facing the State of Michigan and the budget picture for higher education remain unknown at this time, I can tell you we are looking at the entire operation of the Department of Campus Recreation with the goal of doing everything we can to maintain our core services to the OU campus community. That being said, with the start of our spring/summer schedule on April 30 we are adjusting our hours of operation to reflect the usage patterns of the past several years.  Full Story >>

I GET FIT WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS

Buy or renew a four month membership during the month of May, and receive two (2) free guest passes to bring family and friends! Working out with a friend can be more fun. And, more fun means more workouts. Aside from making your workouts more interesting, paling around the Rec Center with a friend or family member can improve your fitness. Hitting the gym with a friend means you're more likely to stick to your workouts—and less likely to get lured by the couch. Plus, watching a workout buddy drop pounds can provide a little friendly competition!  Full Story >>

ARE YOU BEACH READY?

May is upon us, and swimsuit season is just around the corner. Maybe you meant to start getting in shape sooner (like back in January) but it didn't happen. So now you're wondering how to get results — and fast. The good news is that you can slim down and shape up in as little as four to eight weeks. The question is – how much? "It depends where you're at now," says Becky Lewis, Assistant Director of Programs at Oakland University Campus Recreation. If you're hoping to lose 50 pounds in eight weeks, it's not going to happen. Eight or 10 pounds is more like it. Have realistic expectations.  Full Story >>

OU EMPLOYEES - CELEBRATE EMPLOYEE HEALTH & FITNESS DAY

Get Fit with the Department of Campus Recreation and the AP Assembly on Wednesday, May 18! All OU faculty and staff are invited to walk a course of approximately one mile around campus and pick up poker chips along the way. Bring the chips back to the Rec Center and you will be dealt a poker hand. Depending on your luck and the hand you are dealt, you may win a prize! You can walk individually but we encourage you to form a TEAM because Team Exercise Adds Motivation!   Full Story >>
