Michael R. Kramer appointed to second term as OU board chair
Rochester, Mich. – Members of the Oakland University Board of Trustees voted unanimously on Monday to appoint Michael R. Kramer to a second, one-year term as board chair.
Originally appointed to the board in August 2008, Kramer will continue his leadership role during one of the most active periods of campus expansion in Oakland University history. In recent years, he and other board members have also provided valuable direction in efforts to raise the university's prominence among the nation's most prestigious institutions of higher learning.
"To see Oakland's transformation in recent years has been astounding, and it's been incredibly gratifying to know that I and fellow board members have contributing to that," Kramer said.
Offering more than 260 undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs, Oakland has over the last 15 years launched the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine and funded construction of four major academic buildings, two student housing complexes and four student life and recreation facilities.
"What's truly rewarding is seeing that the 20,000 students enrolled at Oakland have opportunities to not only prepare to thrive in a global marketplace, but also to be part of an ambitious, inspiring and engaged community that is transforming lives and enhancing quality of life in countless ways."
Kramer is an equity member of the Dickinson Wright PLLC law firm, the general counsel for Crestmark Bank and a former board member of the National Conference for Justice. He also has served as a special assistant attorney general and on the board of directors for Oakland Family Services and the Attorney Disciplinary Board.
Appointed to a second one-year term as vice chair of the Board of Trustees was Richard Flynn. Also originally appointed to the board in August 2008, Fraser Public Schools teacher for 27 years, served on the Michigan Education Association Board of Directors and Executive Committee and is presently an executive director for the Michigan Education Association.
