OU to honor brightest and best of students and alumni performers

      Rochester, Mich. – On Monday, April 15, Oakland University, Music, Theatre and Dance will celebrate the achievements of their students and alumni, as well as community members who support their programs, with a dinner and awards ceremony at the Royal Park Hotel in Rochester.

     Every spring, Oakland University's Department of Music, Theatre and Dance holds its annual MaTilDa Awards dinner. The MaTilDas are named to honor Matilda Dodge Wilson, who donated the land on which Oakland University is built.

     Distinguished alumni, musicians David Douglass and Ellen Hargis, dancer and choreographer Rodney Brown and well-known actor Richard Riehle are all being honored. The Judd Family Endowed Arts and Humanities Fund will receive the Distinguished Community Service Award for its support of arts and humanities programs that are accessible and enrich the community.

     There will be a cash bar at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. with awards and entertainment to follow. Much of the entertainment will be provided by the student honorees, representing the very highest standards of achievement in every facet of music, theatre and dance – from classical music to musical theatre and modern dance.
