Option 1: Noyce Scholarship Opportunity for STEM Career Changers - National Science Foundation
Full-time, secondary teacher certification program



Overview
This high-quality, Noyce secondary certification and master's degree program, with a focus on math and science education, is designed for  science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) professionals who want to change careers, putting their knowledge and experience to work in middle and high school classrooms

OU Noyce Teaching Scholar recipients will be able to complete their studies, a practicum and student teaching requirements in 13 months. The first cohort will receive certification and be able to begin teaching by the fall of 2011.

Option 2: MAT with Secondary Teacher Certification, 20-Month Program
Part-time program
 
Overview
The Master of Arts In Teaching (MAT) Secondary program is a part-time designed for individuals who already have a bachelor's degree and wish to become certified to teach middle school or high school.
  • Conveniently scheduled. Courses meet on two weekday evenings and scheduled Saturdays, with the exception of one semester of daytime student teaching.
  • Approximately 20 months to certification, with two additional courses to earn a master's degree in teaching*
  • High-quality learning experiences ensures participants are well-prepared to teach
  • Aligned with the State of Michigan certification and endorsement requirements
  • Classes meet off-campus and are primarily scheduled in Troy. A few courses held in Bloomfield Hills or Auburn Hills.

*Additional major and minor courses may be necessary for individuals whose prior course work does not include sufficient credits for the core competencies set by the Michigan Department of Education for teaching a major and minor content area.
