Laura Kasischke is the guest poet for the 2013 Maurice Brown Memorial Poetry Reading. She is the author of eight books of poems, including "Space, in Chains," which won the National Book Critics Circle Award in 2011, and "Dance and Disappear," which garnered the Juniper Prize. Also, an award-winning novelist and short story writer, she has published nine books of fiction, among them "The Raising" and "The Life Before Her Eyes," which was made into a film starring Uma Thurman. Born in Grand Rapids, Kasischke teaches in the Master's of Fine Arts program at the University of Michigan, where she is the Seager Collegiate Professor of English Language and Literature.

This reading is the twenty-sixth in the annual series sponsored by the Department of English and the Creative Writing program as a tribute to Professor Maurice F. Brown, who taught at Oakland University from 1961 until his death in 1985. The Maurice F. Brown Collection of Contemporary Poetry in Kresge Library honors his memory. This event is free and open to the general public.

Refreshments will be served. View the flyer for more information.
