Endowment to help spark love of books and learning
Through their careers in education and reading, Jerry (’65) and Annette Johns (’66 and ’70) know firsthand the importance of literacy and getting books in the hands of young children. The pair recently pledged $25,000 to create the Jerry and Annette Johns Books for Kids Endowed Fund in the School of Education and Human Services (SEHS).

Endowment bolsters Art and Art History student learning opportunities
Art and Art History students will have the opportunity to expand their learning experience thanks to an endowment created by Marion Adams Bunt (CAS ’82), retiree and longtime friend of Oakland University. The Marion Adams Bunt Endowment will support curricular or extracurricular activities for students majoring in either art history or studio art, including study abroad, conferences and symposia, internships or other types of field experience, and other research or creative activities.

A gift of recognition
During a career of more than 35 years, Barbara Calam dedicated her life to serving others. She helped deliver babies as a labor and delivery nurse, healed growing children as a pediatric nurse, assisted ENT surgeons, then found her true calling as an oncology nurse for twenty years at St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital in Clinton Township – a specialization requiring tenacity and caring in equal measure, something for which Barbara was perfectly suited.

OU expanding Judaic studies thanks to donors
The Judaic Studies program launched in Oakland’s College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) this winter thanks to a $50,000 donation by the Schostak Family Support Foundation. A $25,000 endowment and a $25,000 pledge will be made over five years, providing general program support, faculty and program development.

Community leaders make new Islamic Studies program possible
In Winter 2007 an Islamic Studies minor will be offered for the first time to Oakland University students. The program is a result of the efforts of a group of Muslim community leaders who reached out to the Islamic community to raise funds to establish and support the minor.

Educator's legacy persists through scholarships
A devoted teacher and principal, Louise Coallier was supportive of those who wanted to follow in her footsteps. In her memory, her family established the Louise A. Coallier Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund to continue her legacy of mentoring and supporting students who want to become educators.

Donor shares a collection of a lifetime - and a love of golf
Dr. Bert London, a retired cardiologist and Wayne State University professor, may not have attended Oakland University, but to him, OU is his neighborhood university. Over the years he attended programs at Meadow Brook Hall and became a good friend to the university, joining the President’s Club in 1983.
