Accreditation
LCME cites six areas of strength
In awarding preliminary accreditation to the OUWB School of Medicine, the LCME (Liaison Committee on Medical Education) identified six areas that represent institutional strengths:
- Oakland University and Beaumont Health System, in particular Oakland University President Gary Russi and Beaumont Health System President and CEO Ken Matzick, have forged a strong partnership with a clear commitment to the success of this new medical school. This commitment is clearly demonstrated by the resources provided by each partner.
- The Beaumont Health System provides notable access to a wide variety and large volume of patients, as well as a strong and enduring dedication to education, research, and community service that stretches back 50 years. This commitment to social responsibility complements the medical school’s vision and curriculum.
- Oakland University has provided attractive and functional quarters for the medical school that are located in the center of the Oakland campus, with ample facilities for medical education and student life.
- There is a history of collaboration between the Oakland University and Beaumont Health System in creating a well-integrated research program. Medical students will benefit from the availability of these research opportunities.
- The medical school has assembled a talented, energetic, and experienced leadership team.
- A state-of-the-art simulation program is uniquely positioned to contribute to the educational program.
The LCME did not identify any areas of insufficient progress toward compliance with accreditation standards.
