Admission Policy
Admission to the Summer Mathematics Institute at Oakland University is selective. Participation is limited to thirty-six students. Our intention is to create a cadre of bright and gifted participants who will (i) benefit from the opportunity, (ii) be a credit to the Institute and to mathematics, and (iii) foster stimulating interactions with the other participants. A completed application consists of six parts:

  • Part A Student Information
  • Part B Student Interests
  • Part C An official transcript
  • Part D Parent or guardian statement
  • Part E Teacher's recommendation
  • Part F Worksheets and comments on the Problem Set
Selection to the Institute will be based on the information in parts A, B, C, E, and F. All application materials should be sent to:

Professor Eddie Cheng, Director
Summer Mathematics Institute
Department of Mathematics and Statistics
Oakland University

ADMISSION DEADLINES:

The maximum number of participants is forty.

To get full consideration, a completed application, including worksheets and comments on the Problem Set, should be at the Institute by May 15.

Because our goal is to have the best possible student cadre, applications completed after May 15 will be given as much consideration as possible.

Applicants will be notified of admission by June 1.
